Life Tip #3: Iron-On Patches

Yes. Iron-on patches. For those of us who don't feel very domestic and even if we have a sewing machine, we REALLY hate to lug it out, iron-on patches are the answer.

Here's what you do. Buy a small package from someplace like Hobby Lobby where you can get an extra 40% off any time you pull up their coupon. You can choose a little variety pack with several patches made from common fabrics like denim, dark brown, black and khaki. Each little rectangle of fabric has a shiny side that becomes adhesive when you iron over it. If it's bigger than you need, you cut it and iron it on. The next thing you know, you paid pennies to make that favorite whatever last longer.

A few things I've used them on:
  • boot slippers that had holes in the fabric soles
  • jeans where an intentional hole is growing, the crotch is splitting, the seat is threadbare, and on and on
  • a sweater that had a hole in the back where the a hoodie always hid it, but I didn't want it to get worse
  • the knee of Brian's suit pants that developed a tiny hole
So you can hate your sewing machine and still give new life to things you love. Happy Monday!

P.S. My presentation/dinner is this evening at 6:30. If you'd like to come, email me and I'll give you all the details!
